Pool Excavation in Ventura & Los Angeles Counties

Salas Excavating digs swimming pools to print — layout to final grade — with haul-off included. Most residential pool digs take 1–3 days. Family owned, CSLB-licensed (#752427), and based in Simi Valley, we dig for homeowners, owner-builders, and pool construction companies across Ventura and LA counties.

What we do: we excavate swimming pools and spas to the builder's dig sheet — exact dimensions, depths, steps, benches, and over-dig for plumbing and steel — then haul the dirt away. A typical 16×32 pool removes 90–120 cubic yards of soil (10–15 truckloads). Most digs are done in 1–3 days.

A pool dig done right the first time

The excavation is the foundation of the entire pool project. Dig short and the crew fights the steel and plumbing phases; over-dig sloppy and you pay for extra gunite. We dig to print with tight over-dig tolerances, protect your access path, and leave a clean hole ready for the next trade — which is why pool builders across the region call us back dig after dig.

Pool Excavation: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does pool excavation cost?

In Southern California, most standard-access residential pool digs land in the low-to-mid four figures for excavation alone, with total dig-plus-haul-off packages commonly running higher depending on pool size, soil, rock, and truck access. Tight access or rock can add materially to the price. See our full cost guide or call for a firm free quote — we visit the site before we price it.

How long does it take to dig a pool?

Most residential pool digs take 1–3 working days: day one for layout and the main dig, and a second or third day for detail work and haul-off on larger pools, rocky ground, or tighter access. Crane digs and hillside jobs can run longer.

How much dirt comes out of a pool dig?

A 16×32 pool typically produces 90–120 cubic yards of spoil — about 10–15 dump truck loads. A 20×40 pool can produce 150–200+ cubic yards. We include haul-off and disposal in our dig quotes.

Do you handle the utility marking?

Yes. California law requires contacting DigAlert 811 at least two working days before excavation, and we coordinate the ticket and work around marked utilities.

Can you dig if my side yard is narrow?

Usually, yes. We run compact excavators for gates down to roughly 5–6 feet, and for true no-access backyards we can arrange crane-assisted digs. See our access requirements guide.
